My aqua obsession

I'm sure everyone has that amazing vintage truck or car that they're in love with. You know that one that sits parked permanently somewhere & you practically give yourself a strained neck ogling it every time you drive past in your lame, non-vintage, but sensible vehicle. {Or is that just me?}

Well, this awesome aqua truck is my dreamboat! While my {brave} friend Kat & I were galavanting around with her camera I mentioned my obession with love for the fabulous Ford. She screeched to a halt when I pointed it out & pulled in. She & I marched up to the open shop door of the assumed owner. {Though I may have been sheepishly trailing a step or two behind her being of a more shy nature.😆} We asked permission to take pics by the vintage vehicle {slightly shouting to make up for the fact that they were wearing earplugs for their work} & they had no problem with it. They probably thought we were nuts, but oh well. 😉 I've gotten a bit used to that.

My outfit matched just too perfectly!

I made my dress from a vintage sheet which I purchased from The Lavender Housewife. My aqua Hunter wellies were a Christmas gift from Momma & Dad. {Pro tip: If you wear women's size 7 1/2 shoe you can fit into the kids size 5 Hunter wellies!}

Well now, you know you have an obession with a color when you have a sewing machine that color. 😆 I think Astrid rather enjoyed stitching up this frock. 😉

Needless to say I was so excited that smiling was not a problem at all for these pics.

The only thing that could've made this experience better was if they had told me to just go ahead & take the truck home with me. 😉 Hey, I can dream can't I?!

And dream I do.

This post is the last of my wonderful Kat photos so far. But never fear we have plans. Let's just say they involve my nieces.  *dances like a dork with excitement*

I plan to take part in Me Made May {#mmmay} this lovely month as well so that should provide plenty of fodder for my crafty shenanigans.

La Robe de Macaron

Mmm French macarons! 😋

What's not to love about these adorable little bites of deliciousness? Though they're tricky lil things! I've tried to make them two times now & they haven't turned out well either time. Maybe I oughta give it another go & the 3rd time will be the charm.

When Kat & I were traveling around looking for photo ops we thought a bakery would be perfect for this frock. (See previous post for back story.} We stopped in at Le Bakery on the Square in Washington & bought some yummy cake balls, a very sprinkled cookie, and a cuppa {much needed} coffee. They graciously allowed us to snap a few pics in their charming establishment. One of the friendly gals working there insisted on letting me hold their display macarons for a photo prop! So thoughtful. 😊

They had so many yummy things it was hard to choose. {I'll take one of those & those & those...} 😉

I purchased the fabric for this dress at Walmart on clearance. You truly never know what gems they'll have in their fabric department. This fabric was Daisy Kingdom brand which made me really happy to know that they're still kickin' & putting out such adorableness just like they did in the 90s when Mom would make my younger sister & me coordinating dresses & pinafores.

These pics with the polkadotty cardi & lavender tights were taken on an earlier {chillier} day by my longsuffering sister Aimee.

I lined it completely with aqua colored fabric because the macaron or macaroon fabric is very light.

I wore my banana colored jellies from Sunjellies with this dress.
{By the way I'm NOT being paid to feature Sunjellies. I'm just fangirling. Though I certainly wouldn't say no to freebies...I just think I'll need a bigger following before that ever happens. Ha!}

La robe de macaron served as my Easter dress this year too! My grandma even thought they were easter eggs when she first saw it. {Then she thouht they were hamburgers.} And when my dad first saw it he said "Oh, coffee beans?!" *sigh* 😒 At least that gal in the bakery knew what they were right off the bat. Bless her.

Don't you just love all the pastels this time of the year? 💕💗💛💚💙💜💕 I think Spring might be my favorite...just don't tell the other seasons. 😉 I always feel at my best in the Springtime. {Apart from allergies...but they make a pill for that now so...}😆

Sweet Victory

This post has been close to two years in the making. I started this sweater back in the Spring of 2015. {You can see just a snippet of it in this blog post  when I settled on this sweet pastel color sceme.} For one reason or the other it got put on the back burner & then eventually practically forgotten until a friend on Instagram tagged me in a post in early January this year asking if I had any ufos {unfinished objects} to share. So I dug into the deepest recesses of my closet & found a bag containing the completed back & partial front of this poor sweater. Suitably ashamed of myself I ended up finishing it in February & was waiting for a good opportunity to get some pics taken in it. 

Then just the other day my friend Kat asked me if I'd be willing to play model for her while she practiced taking some "senior picture" style pics to prepare for an upcoming photo shoot she's doing. I said sure & told her how I'd been thinking of asking her if she'd be interested in taking pics for my blog. Perfect timing, right? 

So, I grabbed a few of my recent makes & we drove hither & yon taking pics by a vintage truck, in a bakery {1st changing in their bathroom, bless them}, by some silos, & then finally on the way home we found what we had been searching for the entire time - a beautiful magnolia tree, all in bloom, with the sun just so, & in the yard of a {sadly} abandoned farmhouse.

I decided to style it modern rather than trying to recreate a more authentic 1940s look. The scalloped edge of these shortalls were perfect for my kitschy country girl look.

Paired perfectly with my just-peachy peach jellies. 🍑🍑🍑

{Whenever I attempted a serious senior photo-y face it would always end in laughter. Sorry Kat. 😂}

I'll share pics of the other makes in future posts, but I wanted to showcase my sweet Victory Jumper 1st since it had waited so patiently to make its debut. It's a 1940s WW2 Era British pattern {hence the name, obvs} & intended to be made in red, white, & blue, but I couldn't help but play with the color scheme & go for pastels. 《I used Knit Picks Comfy Fingering in Flamingo{2}, Seafoam{2}, & White{1} and sizes 2 & 3 straight knitting needles.》

We had *such* a great time I can't wait to do it again sometime. I'll have to whip something up real quick-like so we can! 😄

Girl, put your records on!

I've been housebound with a cold this week. I personally don't think colds should be allowed in the Spring. Maybe I should write my congressman or something. 😉 With all my unexpected home time I've been sewing. This is the third {yes, 3rd} dress I made in as many days. I got the fit just so. I guess the 3rd time really is the charm! 

I purchased this cute fabric with pastel colored record players all over it from fabric.com. It is so nice! I'm really pleased with the quality. I also bought some *sTrAwBeRrY* fabric that I think I'm finally ready to cut into. {I'll make it in this pattern.} 

I hope you're all well & enjoying Spring. {Or Autumn if you're on the other side of the equator. That still astounds me.} Spring is really springing in my neck of the woods.

Yesterday Crafternoon

Did you know those little beads that eager little girls' fingers meticulously place onto shaped pegboard & then a responsible adult fuses together with an iron have a name? I didn't until recently & I used to be one of those little girls. They are called Perler beads. {Aka Hama beads I've learned from InstaFriends across the pond.} So, now you know. You're welcome. 😉

I. Love. These. Things. Maybe it's the connection to my childhood? All my relatives are probably quaking with fear that their 'fridges will soon be covered with magnets made of these...again. 😜

Abbeygirl & I sure had a fun crafternoon yesterday playing with these. {This is how a grown woman justified excitedly throwing bag after bag of pastel colored plastic beads into her Joann's cart when she found these at 50% off. *cough* "My niece will love these." *cough*}

I think she did some marvelous work though! Hers are the ones on the right. 😊

I can see many such crafternoons in our future.

Ring Around the Rosie

A pillow full of posies



It all started with the cushion pictured below...



I made this one for my Momma for Christmas.

{As well as this Christmas-y one.}



They were so much fun to make that I had to make a couple for myself.

I had some aqua daisy grannies left over from another project so I added some pink & white to them & voila! a daisy granny cushion!



I love the pink tassels so, so much!

We'd had some very grey weather for quite a long time & these colorful makes were just the ticket for keeping my mood cheerful. They're like Vit. D for your eyes! 

When it's so grey & colorless out-of-doors the bright little things indoors are that much more dear.

I had to pause and snap a pic of these pretty dishes drying on a cute towel.



A Dollar Tree store recently opened up in my neck of the woods & I couldn't resist this confetti-like multicolor glitter nail polish! So fun! I can't wait to try these nail sprinkles over all sorts of base colors.



Unfortunately, we have all been quite sick in my house.

Mom made us some delicious chicken stock & soup.

Thankfully the sun has come out this week & I've been happily soaking up its rays like a cat sunning itself in the light streaming through the windows.

{And, unfortunately coughing up the human version of hairballs, but ewwwww! you didn't really want to know that. Sorry.😝 It sounded funnier in my head than it probably actually came across to you poor readers.}

 

One good thing about convalescing is that you can pick up a poor neglected project that was left languishing in the to do pile for some reason or another. Hopefully I'll be able to finish this pastel Victory Jumper in time for warmer days in Spring.

Another good thing is that you have time to write a blog post which you had been meaning to do for a bit. 😉
