Miss Strawberry Makes Podcast Episode 3

It's a short one but here is Episode 3 of the Miss Strawberry Makes Podcast πŸ“

I wanted to show off Jackson's blankie. See previous post for the pattern I made up!

Also I'm all decorated for Christmas & couldn't wait for you all to see.

I made some progress on my Julgran Sweater & just love the Gloss DK yarn I got for it from Knitpicks. The minimal seaming design of this kitschy - cute sweater reminded me of the Levenwick sweater I knitted for my friend Gus a couple years ago.

The wee rabbits picked out their sock yarns for their Christmas stockings. 😊 Such gorgeous colorways of Chroma Fingering & Felici Fingering

I also made a little Thanksgiving pie making video which you may like to see.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting." {Psalm 136:1}

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving. I sure did. I'm all a go for Christmas now tho! πŸ˜„

The Jackson's Bay Blankie

An easy crocheted blanket
Inspired by the iconic Hudson's Bay Blanket
By Michelle {aka Miss Strawberry Shortgirl}

I made this blankie for my 5 year old nephew Jack. Whenever he saw me crocheting something he would ask if it was for him so I thought I'd better make him a cozy blanket.

You will need:
5 - 6oz. Skeins of worsted weight acrylic yarn for the main color (MC)
{I used Hobby Lobby's "Crafter's Secret" in Off-white}

1 - 6oz. Skein each of 4 colors for the stripes
{I used HL "Crafter's Secret in Navy, Yellow, Red, & Jelly Bean}

Size J (5.75mm) hook

Chain 150 loosely in MC.
{Helpful hint: you may use a size larger hook to make foundation chain.)
DC into 4th chain from hook & every following stitch. 148 sts. (Counting beg. Ch.3 not worked as a st.)
Ch.3 turn. 1 DC in every stitch. (Starting with stitch after the stitch the ch. 3 is in.)
Work 8 more rows of MC & fasten off.
Work 6 rows of Navy.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Yellow.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Red.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Green.
Now work 42 rows MC.
Work 6 rows of Green.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Red.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Yellow.
Work 6 rows of MC.
Work 6 rows of Navy.
Now work 10 rows of MC.
And you're done!
Easy peasy lemon squeezey, huh?

Jackson was really pleased with it!
If you make it hopefully you will be too!

Gone too soon June.

Well, this month just zipped on by!
'Twas a busy month...
All in all a good month.

Made some new cushion designs.

Sewed a strawberry dress with Astrid  {the aqua sewing machine} for...

The vintage sale at which my friend Lily {Mode de Lis} & I shared a booth!

It was so much fun & such a great experience! I would definitely do it again.

Did a bit of thrifting with Momma & found some fun strawberry themed items. πŸ“πŸ˜„

My grandpa had a surgery & a few of us took turns staying overnight there to take care of him & grandma. There's nothing like being away from home to make you appreciate your little dwelling on this earth more. As Miss Read said in Village Diary:

"With all the windows in the house opened, I sat down with my tea tray and thought how lovely it was to be back. I feel like a sword in a scabbard, I told myself, and instantly decided that a sword was much too dashing. Perhaps a cup, hanging again on its accustomed hook on the kitchen dresser, would be a better simile."

Some happy mail came all the way from England! I ordered a backpack for an upcoming trip out West to Seattle for a wedding in August! Somehow a meter of London print duck cloth found its way into my online shopping bag as well. πŸ˜‰

The 1st Friday of Summer meant the local Old Settlers carnival! Homemade ice cream from a retro looking food truck was a must. I call this one the pb&j: peanut butter ice cream on the bottom & strawberry on the top. πŸ¦πŸ˜‹

Oh, how I love the view from the top of the ferris wheel.

The brick streets in our little town's square are so charming.

I love how retro some of the rides are.

I've been working away on two major custom orders. These daisy grannies are for a queen sized bedspread. I'm beginning to see them when I close my eyes. I've never made a blankie this big before. {Good thing I love making these, right?}

And also I'm copying a beloved lacy shrug for a lovely gal I met at the vintage sale! This is the first time I've copied a garment & it's coming along nicely. Lots of counting & recounting stitches & scribbling down notes. I'm rather enjoying the almost magical way simple stitches become something beautiful.

πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

How has your June been?
Do you have any big plans for the Summer?

Hope you're enjoying the long days!
Love,
Michelle πŸ“

{Ps cushions are available for custom order. $35 + shipping
And the watermelon version is currently listed in my Etsy shop & ready to ship!}

Rainbow Ripple

Mmm...
That sounds kinda like a yummy ice cream flavor!πŸ˜‰
Here is my latest crocheted creation.
I started it on December 17th after I had finished my crocheted Christmas gifts.
Originally it was supposed to be Christmas colors {you can see the red & green right next to each other} but I didn't finish it in time for Christmas.
One reason being I ended up making it way bigger than originally intended.
I meant for it just to be a throw sized afghan, but I accidentally made it big enough for a twin bed.
Since it took a while to make I went through my normal artistic stages of:
1. loving it

2. getting irritated that it's taking so long

3. hating it

4. questioning my color-putting-together capabilities & wanting to burn it

5. talking myself out of anything rash
{considering how much work I already had into it}

6. liking it again

7. loving it & being sorry that I was ever so mean to it.

 Ah, well. I don't think it looks strictly Christmas anyway.
It looks rather Cath Kidston-esque to me.

The colors are so cheery I like seeing them on my bed.
{Yes, that is my bed. I know I'm the world's oldest child.}
I'm actually planning on redecorating my bedroom in the near future & I have a beautiful full sized wrought iron bedframe that I will be using which will make this twin sized bedspread obsolete. I'm sure I can find a nice home for it when the time comes though.

I used my new comfy ergonomic crochet hook for the most part & I love it! I can crochet for much longer lengths of time now. My hands used to get so sore & tired after crocheting for a long time. {Ok, so now I sound like an old person. That makes up for my juvenile dΓ©cor, right?} ;)
